The “Dead Tree Drop” project is based on the idea of an offline filesharing network from Aram Bartholl. It adds the features of a tree in an urban environment to his approach of the “dead drops” project. A tree has a narrative character in our culture. Furthermore, it works as an indicator for a pleasant place where people want to rest.
Each tree stump carries a USB stick with digital data (Wikipedia articles, movies, etc.) related to its location. Nine of so called “Dead Tree Drops” are placed in the inner district of Berlin along the Landwehrkanal. They invite their neighborhood and other Berlin visitors to exchange stories and let them experience these Berlin places in a new way through digital media.
